| Adverse Filings Westlaw has several databases containing
adverse filings to persons or businesses including
bankruptcy records, lawsuit records, liens, judgments and
UCC filings. Some of the databases are a combination of
individual databases and all of the databases can be
searched for nationwide information or by individual
states.
The most comprehensive database
is ADVERSE-ALL that combines the following
databases: Bankruptcy Filings, Combined Liens & Civil
Judgments, Lawsuit Filings, and Uniform Commercial Code
Records. To search by state, use the database identifier XX-ADVERSE
where XX is the state's abbreviation (i.e. AZ-ADVERSE
for Arizona). Please note that not all filing types are
available for every state. You can check the Scope page (green
"i" circle) of ADVERSE-ALL for a summary of
each database or go directly to the individual database
Scope page for more detailed information. The following
individual databases are the ones combined to make up
ADVERSE-ALL:
- Bankruptcy Filings, BKR-ALL,
allows you to search for basic information on a
particular bankruptcy filing, including judge,
attorney, secured or unsecured claims, asset and
liability figures, and case status. When you
access BKR-ALL, a template is displayed. You can
search by debtor name, case number or Social
Security number (SSN). Use BKR-XX where XX
represents the state code to search individual
states.
- Lawsuit Filings, LS-ALL,
allows you to search for civil lawsuit records (most
states are civil business filings, but some
include civil personal filings) from
approximately 500 counties in 44 states, plus the
District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Information
varies by geographical region and court, but the
filings typically include plaintiff, defendant,
case number, judges and other filing data. To
search individual states, use LS-XX.
- Combined Liens &
Civil Judgments, LJ-ALL, allows you to
search for liens and civil judgments relating to
businesses and individuals for selected courts in
50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico,
and Guam. Lien records may include tax (state
& federal), mechanics, personal property,
chattel mortgage, attachment, judgment,
agricultural and others. Civil Judgment records
may include judgment, judgment note, default
judgment, summary judgment, judgment confession,
declaratory judgment, consent judgment, foreign
judgment, small claims judgment, and others.
Records include debtor name, lienholder or
creditor name, and lien amount or amount owed.
Other information that is typically included is
the filing location, filing type, filing date and
filing number. To search individual states, use
the same format as above (LJ-XX).
- Uniform Commercial Code
Records, UCC-ALL, allows you to search
UCC filings from state and county agencies for
all 50 states including the District of Columbia
and the Virgin Islands. Coverage varies by state,
but information in the records generally includes
the debtor names and addresses, instrument
numbers, date of filing, secured parties and
assignees, status and filing location. Some
records also contain collateral information,
filing history and tax liens. To search
individual states, use UCC-XX.
- Combined UCC, Lien &
Civil Judgment Records, ULJ-ALL or ULJ-XX
(for individual states), combines the two
previous databases. Use this database when you
need to locate liens, civil judgments, dollar
amounts owed to a particular party, dollar
amounts that a party still owes or has paid,
number of creditors an individual or company may
have, outstanding indebtedness of parties, and to
identify financial relationships or to locate
collateral used to secure any indebtedness.
